We have submitted the Nowa Ruda Town Museum project to the participatory budget for 2026. The initiative aims to create a memorial room in the premises provided by the Municipal Public Library. It will house and showcase memorabilia related to the history of the city and its residents, becoming a local heritage center. The initiator of the project is Jacek Kuśmierski, Vice President of the Eduard Petzold Foundation. The vote will take place in September!
The museum in the form of a memorial room, located in the Municipal Public Library in Nowa Ruda, will become a place where history and modernity meet. It will serve as a local heritage center, collecting and presenting memorabilia related to the city’s past and its residents. Thanks to this project, visitors will have the opportunity to explore the rich, nearly 700-year history of Nowa Ruda – from its mining roots to the contemporary face of this picturesque mountain town on the Włodzica River.
Key activities within the project:
- Preparation of exhibition spaces – renovation of rooms in the Municipal Public Library in Nowa Ruda, totaling approximately 50 square meters, and installation of necessary systems for building the exhibition.
- Organization and inventory of collections – gathering, describing, and documenting historical memorabilia, including photographs, postcards, paintings, maps, plans, newspapers, documents, antique books, posters, books, coins, banknotes, seals, medals, awards, banners, ceramics, everyday objects, and other artifacts related to the history of the city and its residents.
- Development of exhibition script and design – creating an exhibition concept based on the collected exhibits and consultations with local residents. The script will also include educational activities.
- Exhibition arrangement – designing a narrative exhibition and equipping it with modern information boards, display cases, archival cabinets, and other elements that will facilitate the safe storage and presentation of the collected items.
The museum will be a space that integrates the community, fostering the exchange of memories and nurturing local identity. It will also be accessible to schools as a venue for thematic lessons and meetings for local history enthusiasts.
The implementation of the project will contribute to the preservation and protection of the heritage of Nowa Ruda, enrich the city’s cultural offerings, and enhance its tourist appeal. The museum will not only serve as a testament to the past but also as an inspiration for future generations, showcasing the rich and diverse history of the city and its inhabitants.
The Museum of the City of Nowa Ruda project successfully passed the substantive evaluation and was admitted to the voting stage of the Nowa Ruda Participatory Budget. This time, however, it did not receive enough votes to be implemented. We sincerely thank everyone who voted for us and supported this initiative!
