Historical Walk in the Spa Garden with Łukasz Przybylak
The historic Spa Garden in Duszniki Zdrój is celebrating its 255th anniversary this year, and the project that brought it fame was established 138 years ago. Restoration work to revive its former splendor will soon begin. Łukasz Przybylak will share insights into its history and future.
Why was the Duszniki garden a jewel of European horticulture and a model for gardening enthusiasts across Europe? How was it designed, and how did it look in full bloom during the 1920s? What did the famous grand fountain look like? What made the carpet bedding created by Carl Hampel, a master of carpet gardening, so captivating? What was the purpose of the water axis, and where did it lead? Where was the goddess Hygea, the mythological patron of the Duszniki garden? How can one reconcile the past with the present in the process of revitalization?
Łukasz Przybylak, author of the Duszniki garden revitalization concept, expert in historic gardens, President of the European Route of Historic Gardens, and Chair of the Eduard Petzold Foundation Board, will address these questions. He previously managed the Garden Department at the Royal Palace in Wilanów, overseeing its maintenance and revitalization. Currently, he is an adviser to the Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Poland on historic gardens, caring for the gardens at the Presidential Palace and Belweder.
Join us for a walk with Łukasz Przybylak through the Duszniki-Zdrój park. The tour starts at 2 pm. Meeting point is at the Park entrance on Zdrojowa Street. See you there!
